Chinook native William Bartholome played two seasons of Saints basketball, after the sport resumed on the Hilltop having been discontinued for lack of funds during the Great Depression. Carroll was not an official member of the Montana College Conference that first season of 1935-36, but they did play teams in the league. Bartholome was CC’s leading scorer in 4 of 9 games, with a high of 14.

His senior year, “W.F.” was team captain and top point man in 4 of 13 contests, with a high of 13. In the 28-27 win over Eastern, he led the blue-and-gold with 11 counters. Regarding the low scores from that era, the jump ball rule after every basket, while the clock remained running, was still in effect until the fall of 1937. Bartholome averaged about 9 points per game for both seasons. He later served as Carroll’s business manager and registrar for many years.
