Malta product Jack Molloy, a 190-lb. interior lineman, made an  impression on Carroll football his first few appearances on the practice field, and went on to be a 4-year starter for the Saint gridders. “Freshman Jack Molloy, a center from Malta, has impressed the Saint staff in early scrimmages,” the IR reported on June 14, 1965, “(and he) could break into the starting lineup for the season opener.” Three days later Jack was listed as the Hilltop starter, a role he would hold down for the next four seasons.

As a sophomore, he switched to O-guard and played both ways at linebacker. In a 41-6 win over Montana Tech, Molloy (now at 200 lbs.) showed his foot-speed when he scored on a 31-yard Pick 6. In 1966, he became the Saints’ kicker, booting six PATs on the year. His efforts were rewarded in the post season accolades, when Jack was elected first team All-Conference offensive guard. He was moved back to center his final season, which ended on a sour note due to a sidelining shoulder injury late in the year.
