Nick Ranalli had been an All-State guard with the Anaconda Copperhead hoopsters. After transferring from Eastern Montana, the 6’1” Ranalli cracked the Saints’ starting line-up in mid-January, 1972, and finished averaging 7.8 points and 3.6 rebounds. He appeared in every game as a sophomore and started most of the time, scoring 6.3 points per contest. Ranalli missed part of the 1973-74 season, but came back strong his final year.

Known more for his defense and “floor generalship,” he could shoot some, too. Nick averaged 9.6 ppg, netting 15-plus points six times. Among the highlights were a PR 26 points versus Montana Tech, 16 points and 7 assists against Western, and 10 dishes vs. Westmont, (Calif.). The 4-year letterman was also team assist-leader for the third time, with 124 dishes. Carroll historian Marty Mouat wrote, that he probably rated “near or at the top of the Conference” in steals.
