Although Dick House only played for two seasons, his 1955-56 campaign ranks among the greatest in Carroll hoops history. After helping Helena High to its second of three consecutive Class A championships, in 1954 – and averaging just five points per game as the Bengals’ sixth man – House then blossomed on the Hilltop. Combining hard work with an intense desire to succeed, he developed one of the deadliest corner jumpshots in the annals of Saints basketball.

As a 6’1” sophomore forward, he posted eleven 25-point games, while cracking the 30-point category four times. House and the Saints set team and individual scoring records during a 121-66 victory over Montana Tech, when he poured-in 45 points – 35 in the second half – consisting of 15 field goals and 15-of-18 free throws. He finished the year with at least eight Hilltop marks – some of which lasted over 20 years – including 495 points, a 22.5-point average, 204 field goals and 87 free throws. House was selected 1956 first team All-Conference and Catholic honorable mention All-American, to which Bill Russell was a first-team member. When he was inducted into the Hall of Fame, the IR noted that Dick House was considered by many to be one of the best streak shooters in Carroll history.
