A 160-pounder from Butte, Vivian Burr earned three letters in football at Mount Saint Charles and was twice selected to the All-Montana College teams. He played both ways at the end position, with his strengths being defense, punt coverage and blocking. “Vivian Burr is one of the hardest hitting men I have,” according to coach Wilbur Eaton. As a sophomore, after the 21-0 victory over Gonzaga in the Mining City, the paper reported “Burr thrilled his home town people with his splendid work.”

The Hilltoppers went 6-2-1, with the defense allowing only 4 points per game. In 1928, team captain Burr caught a 34-yard TD pass during the 18-12 loss to Gonzaga, their only setback of the season. The defense performed 5 whitewashes, including a 19-0 triumph over MSU for the quad-State crown. Described as “rugged, studious and determined,” Vivian also lettered in basketball, fought to a draw in the Carroll boxing smoker, and won the campus horseshoe throwing championship.
