Con Lacey, a “brawny” 6’2”, 195 lb. lineman from Spokane, was the son of former Helena resident Dr. William Lacey. He started for three years on the Hilltop, at guard and D-tackle, beginning with the 1957 season opener as a freshman. After the 12-6 win over Eastern Montana the IR mentioned Con as one of the team’s defensive standouts.

Mid-way through his sophomore year, coach Jim Deming switched Lacey to offensive end in order to bolster their “title hopes.” His final season in 1959, when Carroll edged Eastern 7-0, Lacey’s 30-yard reception to the Yellowjackets’ three set-up the winning touchdown. Con finished as the team’s leading receiver and was selected first team All-Montana College Conference.
