Marc Racicot arrived on the Hilltop’s campus after leading Libby High to the 1966 Big 32 State basketball championship. The son of Carroll’s new Athletic Director (and later cage coach) Bill Racicot, Marc became a 3-year starter in both football and basketball for the Saints, while earning a pair of honorable mention All-Frontier hoops selections, in 1969-70. As a 5’11” point guard on the hardcourt, he was an “outstanding passer and playmaker.” After a season on the frosh team, Racicot led CC’s varsity in assists all three years, setting school records for game (32 vs. the College of Great Falls) and season (168) assists.

His final two seasons he averaged about 9 and 10.5 points per game, respectively, and posted four 20-point games, with a high of 24 against Western Montana. On the gridiron, as a 165-lb. freshman fullback, Racicot led the Saints in rushing in three games. After an injury-plagued 1967 season, he came back his junior year in a platoon system at quarterback. Now up to 175 lbs., he finished the season with 7 touchdowns – 5 passing (longs of 53 and 49 yards), 1 rushing (78 yards, vs. MT Tech) and 1 reception. Marc Racicot began his political career as Carroll College’s student body president, and went on to serve as Montana’s attorney general from 1988-93, and then two-term governor, from 1993-2001.
