Younger of Anaconda Central’s “Gold Dust Twins,” Al (right) and brother John (left) both played guard on the same line at the Hilltop for three seasons, from 1938-40. In 1940’s season lid-lifter, a 14-7 loss to Boise State, “Carroll’s 150-pound junior guard Al Kaparich was a terror on defense, as he spent most of the game in the Broncos’ backfield.” It was the first of back-to-back MCC titles for second-year coach Ed Simonich.

As a senior captain and 4-year letterman, Al Kaparich helped the Saints make history with their 5-0-1 undefeated, unscored upon 1941 Conference championship. Among his highlights were the extra point kick in the 7-0 win over Dillon’s Normal College, and mention of his defensive “leadership” in the wins over Boise State 6-0, and Whitworth 9-0.
