Saints Athletic Hall of Fame
Davis, one of the best Saints receivers of all time, held eight Carroll receiving records upon graduation and four Carroll records at the time of his induction in 1998; including most game pass receptions (12), most touchdown receptions in a game (4), and most yards receiving in a season (1,018). He was an honorable mention NAIA All-American in 1982, and was first team All-District 12 and All-Frontier Conference in 1981 and 1982. "Attending Carroll College was probably one of the best decisions I've made in my life," Davis said. "Being named to the Hall of Fame is one of the greatest awards I have ever received." Davis' prolific accomplishments are even more daunting when one considers the run-oriented style of Carroll's offense during his career. The Saints, with Bob Petrino Jr. at the helm of their option attack, seldom passed more than they ran. Davis had one of the best single-games for a receiver in Frontier Conference history in 1982 when he burned the Rocky Mountain College secondary on the Bears' home field. "Bobby (Petrino) didn't practice all week before that game. He injured his knee and the brace he needed didn't arrive until Wednesday. He couldn't run the option, so we had to go to the air." Davis didn't seem to mind. He loaded the Fighting Saints' offense on his 6-5, 215-pound frame, catching 12 passes for more than 150 yards and four touchdowns - a record he still shares today. Davis also hauled in 10 passes in a game against Western Montana for a ten-school record 179 yards and the game's winning touchdown in the waning moments. Davis went down with a serious knee injury during a practice early in his senior season. The injury required surgery and caused him to miss the remainder of the season. He was granted an injury redshirt by the NAIA, and came back in '85 to break the school's career receptions record. Davis had been contacted by the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Stars (USFL), and a scout representing 12 other professional teams following his record-setting junior season.
