The 2000 Carroll football team reached the NAIA semifinals for the third time in school history, kicking off the current streak of 11 consecutive postseason appearances.

In the regular season finale, the Saints overcame a 27-14 deficit early in the fourth quarter against Montana Tech, to capture the conference championship with a 37-34 victory over the Orediggers in double overtime.

It was the first of Mike Van Diest’s nine Frontier Coach of the Year awards.

The Saints then upset No. 6 Valley State University 24-21 in the first round of the playoffs, before posting a 31-17 win over Huron in the quarterfinals.

Carroll’s (9-4) season then came to an end in a hard-fought loss to Georgetown in Kentucky, 28-21.
