A versatile halfback from Butte Central, Halverson earned 8 letters for the Saints, 4 each in football and baseball. A 4-year starter on the gridiron known for his breakaway speed and gritty determination, Halverson performed one of the Hilltop’s more auspicious beginnings by scoring TDs in each of the season’s first three games as a freshman. This included a 90-yard catch and run to The House in the win over Western. Floyd went on to become a 3-time All-Conference selection, garnering second team in 1957 and ‘58, and first team in 1960, when he played most of his senior year despite multiple painful injuries.

His frosh season he led the MCC with 235 receiving yards, and as a sophomore he was the league’s No. 2 ground-gainer, averaging 61 rushing yards per game. Halverson left the program with 12 TDs (10 rushing, 2 receiving), his longest runs going for 91, 75, 62 and 40 yards. As a centerfielder on the Saints’ baseball team, among his career highlights were a 3-2 victory over the Montana State Bobcats, when Floyd went 1-for-2, with a run scored and a run batted in.
