A 6’3” forward from Shelby, Kavanaugh was a 3-year starter for the Saints, leaving the Hilltop ranked sixth in the program’s career scoring column. As a sophomore, he was the team’s No. 3 scorer, averaging 10.1 points, with a 50% field goal accuracy, while bringing down 4.0 rebounds per game. In 1981, Brian led the team’s offense with a 13.6 ppg average, connecting on 56.5% of his FG attempts (130-of-230). 

He was the No. 2 rebounder as well, averaging 7 boards per game, and fifth with 49 assists. Kavanaugh was selected second team All-Frontier Conference. His final season, he rated No. 2 in scoring at 13.6 ppg (50.8% from the floor) and was third under the glass, at 4.0 rpg. Over his career, he paced the Saints in scoring in 20 games, netted 20-plus points 9 times – PR of 33 counters vs. Lewis-Clark – and compiled 1136 lifetime points. “Brian Kavanugh was explosive on offense, and resilient on defense,” coach John Driscoll said.
