In 1974, Pat Racicot performed one of the greatest defensive seasons in Carroll history. The 6’1” 200-lb. junior defensive end finished the year with 19 sacks and 22 quarterback hurries, in just 8 games. Among the highlights was the win over Eastern Montana, when Pat literally camped out in the Yellowjackets backfield, posting 6 sacks and 4 hurries, to go along with an interception and 7 total tackles (4 solo, 3 assists). His game and season sacks, and season hurries – all school records which still stand – were each believed to be No. 1 in the nation at the time.

A member of Helena High’s 1971 State basketball championship, Racicot was part of two Frontier grid titles, including the Saints’ 1973 undefeated 7-0 season. He was a 3-time All-Conference selection; two second teams and one first team. Pat placed in the top 3 on the team’s season defensive charts three times, with highs of 483 points, 3 caused fumbles and another CC record of 6 fumble recoveries as senior co-captain. “Pat Racicot was both strong and quick, with excellent feet,” wrote Carroll sports historian Marty Mouat. “He was an outstanding pass rusher and was also very good against the run.”
