HELENA, Mont. - No. 6 Carroll College men's basketball team has two games to play for a chance to earn a Frontier title and a first-round bye and home-court advantage in the conference tournament. Standing in the way, a Thursday night matchup with No. 19 Lewis-Clark State and a Saturday Night game against No. 10 Montana Western.
Carroll (23-5, 11-5 FC) split with both teams earlier this season losing a heartbreaker to LCSC (21-7, 10-6 FC) at home 72-70 before putting up a dominant defensive performance in a 65-55 road win in Lewiston. Against Montana Western (22-5, 12-4 FC), Carroll led wire-to-wire in a 77-63 win on Jan. 4, before losing 88-77 against the Bulldogs in Dillon.Â
The Saints had won six straight before dropping a one-point road contest 59-58 to Providence last Saturday without starting point guard
Lorel Johnson in the lineup for the second half.
Ryan Imhoff leads the Frontier with 20.0 PPG and is tops in steals at 2.57 per game. He also paces Carroll in rebounds, assists and blocks.
Match Burnham is second on the team at 13.8 PPG and
Matt Wyman in third at 12.9 PPG.Â
The Saints have the best scoring defense in the conference, allowing just 65 PPG in conference games, more than five points better than second-place Montana Tech.Â
Lewis-Clark has won four of their last five after dropping four straight before that stretch. Race Martin leads the Warriors with 12.8 PPG and Andre McCowan and Cory Dollarhide also average double figures for LC.Â
Western has the longest win streak in the Frontier at four games. Frontier preseason Player of the Year Dom Robinson leads the Bulldogs with 18.3 PPG. Brandon Jones, Zacchaeus Darko-Kelly and Cooper Kidgell all average double figures for Western. Â The Bulldogs lead heavily on their starters with each one averaging over 21 minutes a game while no other player averages more than 17.Â
The games are slated for 7:30 p.m. Saturday's game will be senior night and the Saints five seniors;
Oliver Carr,
Patrick Colberg, Imhoff, Johnson and
Kyle Nickol will be honored before the game.Â
The games will be broadcast on 94.9 ESPN Montana Radio and ESPNMontana.com. A live video stream will take place on the Carroll Youtube channel and live stats will be available via dakstats.
