HELENA, Mont. – Carroll College Women's Soccer head coach
David Thorvilson has announced the second group of signees for the 2022 recruiting class.
"We are very excited to wrap up the end of our 2022 recruiting class with these five student-athletes," said Coach Thorvilson.
Let's meet the newest members of the Carroll Women's Soccer team:
Aryana Jones / Outside Winger and Outside Back / Lathrop, Calif. / Lathrop HS
Aryana Jones joins the Fighting Saints following a highly successful career at both the prep and club levels. Jones played club soccer for West Coast Wicked and has played a large part in several league championships as well as appearances in national level tournaments all across the Unites States. At the High School level, Jones played varsity soccer all four years, led her team to the playoffs for the first time in school history, led her team in scoring for three seasons, and made all-league three times. She is the daughter of Victoria Baca and Earl Jones and plans to study nursing at Carroll.
Jones on why she chose Carroll: "I was looking for a school that would have small classes where focus can be more on the students instead of being in a big class where the focus is not there, also a school that has a good soccer program. When I chose Carroll, I chose it because I am able to study in the nursing program and still play a sport that I love at the same time instead of having to choose between the two."
Coach Thorvilson on the addition of Jones: "Jones is a very dynamic forward that enjoys assists as much as she does scoring. She plays for a very talented West Coast GA team where out-wide she swings balls in. For her high school team, she was one of the leading scores."
Ella Kuenzli / Midfield / Colarado Springs, Colo. / Discovery Canyon Campus HS
Ella Kuenzli takes her talents to Helena after a very decorated high school career both on and off the field. Kuenzli served as a premier player and leader on her high school team, starting for four years and being voted as a team captain for two. Off the field, she served her community through National Honors Society and National French Honors Society. Kuenzli played club soccer for Colorado Pride ECNL, and plans to study political science at Carroll. She is the daughter of David and Kristine Kuenzli.
Kuenzli on why she chose Carroll: "I chose Carroll because of its exceptional academics and the opportunity to play soccer at the next level, a great balance of athletics and academics. Being a mere three hours from my parents' house in Bigfork, Montana, I love the distance—not too far but just far enough—from my parents. This way, they can travel down to watch my games, and I can go home for long weekends and when I need my laundry cleaned. Also, after hearing great things about the Political Science major and 3+3 Law program at Carroll, I am very excited for my academic future there as well as my athletic future."
Coach Thorvilson on the addition of Kuenzli: "Kuenzli comes to us from a strong ECNL club in Colorado and she was highly recommended by her director of coaching. A late addition to our recruiting board, she has been on campus twice this spring and will be a good fit for our program."
Deanna Lord / Forward/Defender / Cave Creek, Ariz. / Notre Dame Prep Catholic HS
Deanna Lord joins the Carroll Women's Soccer program from Cave Creek, Ariz., after a career as a multi-sport standout on and off the field at Notre Dame Prep. As a Soccer player, Lord was a multiple-time West Valley all-region selection and also won the defensive player of the year award. She also helped lead her high school team to multiple quarterfinal trips in the state playoffs as well as a runner-up finish. She also competed in track and field, placing at the state tournament and winning her team's coaches award. As far as academics go, Lord was an academic all-state first team selection for both soccer and track. She is the daughter of Bill and Karen Lord and plans to plans to study elementary and special education at Carroll.
Lord on why she chose Carroll: "I chose Carroll College because it is a way for me to continue my Catholic education and play the sport I love. I like the size of the school, as I feel more welcomed and comfortable in a smaller environment. The education program at Carroll also really spoke out to me. I was drawn to the fact that I will be able to observe in an elementary classroom for all four years. I feel like this will give me more confidence, experience, and prepare me for my own classroom one day. Being an Arizona native, I am excited to get out of the heat and experience a completely different climate and culture. Another huge factor that drew me to Carroll is the Catholicism engrained in the school. I am excited to have a beautiful chapel on campus and find friends that are willing to attend mass with me. Therefore, a combination of the culture, academics, athletics, and Catholicism that are all found at Carroll motivated me to choose to attend there in the fall."
Coach Thorvilson on the addition of Lord: "Lord is a very versatile player. She is coming off a tremendous high school season as a starting center back and a talented forward for her club team. There does not seem to be many positions she is not willing to play."
Olivia St. Marie / Center Midfielder / Renton, Wash. / Lindberg HS
St. Marie was a four-year varsity starter, three-year all-league first team selection, and senior captain for her high school team. She helped lead her high school team to four straight KingCo 2A conference championships. St. Marie was a multi-sport athlete, also competing in gymnastics in which she was a captain and four-year varsity all-around. In addition, she competed in varsity tennis and club rowing. In the classroom, she was a national merit scholarship commended student, a Heisman high school scholarship winner, an AP scholar with distinction, and a member of the National Honors Society. Olivia is the fifth member of her family to attend Caroll, following in the footsteps of her mother (Ann Lapke St. Marie), grandfather (Leo Lapke), aunt (Therese Lapke), uncle (Anthony Lapke), and cousin (Taylor Lapke). She plans to study civil engineering or computer science.
St. Marie on why she chose Carroll: "I chose Carroll because of its small size and academic programs. I really wanted to go to a school where I could build relationships with my professors and classmates and from my visits, as well as conversations with alumni, I got the feeling that Carroll will be an amazing community to live and learn in."
Coach Thorvilson on the addition of St. Marie: "St. Marie is legacy with much of her family being Carroll alumni. We have watched her play with her club team as well as at our camp last summer and she is a strong midfielder with good vision."
Grace Wagner / Center Defender / Laurel, Mont. / Laurel HS
Grace Wagner is the fourth signee in the 2022 signing class out of the state of Montana. During her four years of high school soccer, her team made it to four state championship games taking second once before winning the last three. Wagner was a two-time all-conference player and a first team all-state selection in 2021. She also won defender of the year twice and the AAA award for excellence in academics, athletics, and attitude. She plans on studying nursing and has had a great number of family members attend Carroll. She is the daughter of Matthew and Brigid Wagner.
Wagner on why she chose Carroll: "I chose Carroll for their amazing nursing program and the ability to continue my soccer career. I also chose Carroll because it felt like home. The community seemed very supportive and the school had a great atmosphere. I am very excited for this new adventure over the next four years!"
Coach Thorvilson on the addition of Wagner: "Wagner came on our recruiting radar during her junior high school season and then impressed us at camp last summer. She is a strong defensive player that will help add depth to our depleted center back core after graduating both staring center backs this last year."
