LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Carroll Women's Soccer team picked up a much-needed win on Saturday, taking down Eastern Oregon 1-0 on Saturday evening at Community Stadium.

Looking for just their second win in CCC play this season, the Fighting Saints (3-3-6, 2-1-4) found a way to gut one out on the road, as Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / SR) turned away four shots to lift Carroll to victory.

The Saints have found themselves down early in several matches over the past month, but not on Saturday. An EOU foul inside the box would present Carroll with an opportunity to go in front first. Rachel McAllister (Brier, Wash. / JR) made good on the gift, burying a penalty kick goal in the 13th minute, her fourth of the season to give the Saints a first half lead for the first time in what felt like a long time.

The remainder of the match was a physical, defensive bout - one the Saints felt right at home in.

Eastern Oregon outshot Carroll 12-6 on the afternoon, but solid play on the back line and a four-save performance by All-Conference keeper Maria Ackerman would keep the Mounties off the scoreboard.

Both teams had their chances throughout the evening, but McAllister's PK would prove to be the difference as the Saints picked up a vital two points in their quest for a return to the CCC Championship next month.

The win was a big one, keeping Carroll in a tie for the final postseason spot with 10 points on the season.

Carroll will look to build momentum with just one match on the slate next week, a home tilt with in-state rival Providence next Saturday at Nelson Stadium.
