HELENA, Mont. – Carroll College Women's Soccer head coach David Throvilson announced six signees for the 2022 recruiting class.

Among the six, three are in-state recruits and one is already on campus after transferring over at the semester. All six of the signees have had tremendous success at the high-school level both on and off the field.

The coaching staff is still on the recruiting trail and another announcement of signees is to be expected in the coming weeks.

Now let's meet the newest Fighting Saints!

Bonnie Martin / Center Back / Mill Creek, Wash. / Jackson HS, Skagit Valley College

Bonnie joined the Carroll Women's Soccer team at the start of this semester, coming over from Skagit Valley college in Washington. As a high school player, she was a four-year varsity starter as well as an all-WESCO and all-area first team defender. Martin was also voted team MVP all four years of high school and was a captain as a senior. In junior college, Martin was a two-year captain and an all-NWAC honorable mention selection. She is a 4.0 student and will study Nursing at Carroll.

Martin on why she chose Carroll: "I chose Carroll because of the outstanding nursing and women's soccer programs. I instantly fell in love with Carroll the second I set foot on campus because of the beautiful location, the staff, my coaches, and most importantly my extremely talented teammates."

Coach Thorvilson on Martin: "We are very excited to bring Bonnie into the spring semester to get more comfortable with our style of play.  She will give us much needed depth at the center back position with both starters from the fall graduating."

Emma Barron / Forward/Attacking Midfielder / Whitefish, Mont. / Whitefish HS

An in-state product from up in the valley, Barron had an outstanding career for Whitefish HS. She was a three time all-conference and all-state selection. In her four years of high school soccer, Barron helped lead the Bulldogs at least the state semifinals each year including one runner-up finish in which she scored two goals in the state championship game. She was the recipient of her team's Offensive Player of the Year award, Most Improved Player award, and Golden Boot award. Emma is the daughter of Daniel and Laurie Barron and played club soccer for Flathead Valley United. She posted a 3.9 GPA and has plans to become a Physicians Assistant.

Barron on why she chose Carroll: "I wanted to be close to home and continue playing the sport I love while also earning a very high-quality education. After visiting Carroll, I felt right at home, and since they have a very high graduation placement rate, a strong pre-physicians assistant program, and a quality women's soccer program, I knew Carroll was the perfect school for me. I am very excited for the opportunity to play with the Saints for the next four years!"

Coach Thorvilson on Barron: "Emma is a box-to-box midfielder, technically very sound and can be lethal on set pieces.  She has seen great success with her HS team falling just short of a state title."

Sydney Coulter / Midfield/Forward / Colorado Springs, Colo. / Doherty HS

Sydney Coulter joins the Saints following a high school career at Doherty HS in Colorado Springs that was full of great accomplishments. Coulter was a four-year varsity starter, named offensive MVP of her team and led her team in assists in back-to-back seasons. She was also voted as a team captain. Off the field, Sydney was a first team academic all-state selection and posted a 4.2 weighted GPA. Sydney is the daughter of Jim and Emily Coulter and plans to go down the pre-pharmacy track upon her arrival at Carroll. She played club soccer for Colorado Pride ECNL.

Coulter on why she chose Carroll: "I chose Carroll because of its outstanding academics and the opportunity I had to play soccer at the next level.  I felt like I belonged in this community the first time I visited.  I love everything that Montana has to offer!"

Coach Thorvilson on Coulter: "Sydney is a versatile player with good ball control and the ability to create shots on goal.  I have watched her play for her ECNL team and have had her at our summer camps over the years and she has impressed us each time."

Courtnie Gagnon / Outside Back / Billings, Mont. / Billings West HS

Gagnon comes to Carroll from Billings West High School, where she helped her team win two class-AA state championships. In her prep career, Gagnon received multiple all-conference selections and was voted academic all-state four times. For the Golden Bears, she was voted team Defensive MVP and was a team captain. In the classroom, Courtnie posted a GPA of 4.05 and plans to enter the nursing program when she starts at Carroll this fall. She is the daughter of Rob and Laurie Gagnon and played club soccer for Billings United.

Gagnon on why she chose Carroll: "I chose Carroll because I want to attend a smaller college that is focused on the students and supporting my goals for the future. I like a smaller community because you can connect with your teachers and peers more intimately. I chose Carroll because of the great soccer program and also the nursing program. I am very happy to be a part of a team and family that values hard work on and off the field."

Coach Thorvilson on Gagnon: "Courtnie is coming off of a very successful high school career at Billings West with two state titles under her belt.  She is a strong defensive player with the ability to get forward out of the back line."

Makinlee Naffziger / Outside Back/Midfield / Bozeman, Mont. / Gallatin HS

Naffziger signs on to join the Carroll College Women's Soccer team following her high school at Gallatin HS in Bozeman. Makinlee played an instrumental part in helping her team to a runner-up finish in the class-AA State Soccer Tournament. She played club soccer for Gallatin Elite and is a 4.0 student. She is the daughter of Kylee and Tyson Naffziger and plans on pursuing a degree in accounting and strategic finance.

Naffziger on why she chose Carroll: "I am excited to attend Carroll because it is a Montana school, Christian based, they have a strong academic program, and I liked the campus."

Coach Thorvilson on Naffziger: "Makinlee is a utility player that will find success wherever you put her.  Her high school coach gave her much praise for playing out of position this fall to help strengthen the team in the holding mid and lead the team in just its second year to the state title game."

Myah Rietze / Center Back / Coeur d'Alene, Idaho / Coeur d'Alene HS

Rietze was a four-year varsity athlete in high school, competing in both soccer and track and field for Coeur d'Alene HS. She was a team captain and won team MVP as well as Midfielder of the Year one season and Defender of the Year in another. Myah also received all-league recognition three times. Rietze played club soccer for Thorns North FC. Her accomplishments off the field are also strong as she was a top scholar in her region and a member of the National Honors Society. Her GPA is a 4.3 and she plans to pursue a degree in pre-medicine. She is the daughter of Kristi and Aaron Rietze.

Rietze on why she chose Carroll: "I chose Carroll because it integrates everything I hoped to find in a college. Carroll is giving me the opportunity to be an athlete and a scholar by providing a soccer program that will allow me the space and time to play soccer at a high level and focus on my academic goals, with coaches and professors who care about me. I love that Carroll is a place where I will grow in my faith. It has always been my hope to go to college in Montana, and Helena is a perfect, outdoorsy town only a few hours away from my home and family. I am so excited for what the next four years will bring!"

Coach Thorvilson on Rietze: "Myah plays for a very well coached and organized club team out of Coeur d'Alene.  She is tall and moves well in the back line and will give us more depth in the center back position.  During her visit on campus we knew she fit well with our team."
