MEDFORD, Ore. - The Carroll Women's Soccer team saw their season come to a close in heartbreaking fashion at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship, falling 1-0 in overtime in quarterfinal action to the top-seeded College of Idaho at Wheeler Field.

In two matches against the Yotes this season, the Fighting Saints (7-5-5, 5-4-3) have given the CCC's lone ranked team all they could handle, but come up short in both contests.

For the second-straight season, the Saints needed extra time to decide their CCC Championship quarterfinal. Last year in Medford, Carroll fell in a double-overtime thriller, and Saturday's match nearly went as long.

Right from the get-go, the Saints were forced to defend. The No. 7-ranked Yotes were aggressive, putting up nine first half shots to Carroll's one. The Carroll defense did their jobs, however, keeping the clean sheet intact through the first 45.

College of Idaho turned things up a notch more in the second half, firing a total of 19 shots in the frame. Honorable Mention goalkeeper Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / JR) was outstanding in net though, tallying 10 of her 14 total saves in the second stanza.

The Yotes put up four shots over the final two minutes, but none of them hit net - forcing an overtime period.

In the 97th minute, however, the College of Idaho found the game-winner. Abbi Roubidoux scored her 15th goal of the year, beating Ackerman with a header off an assist from Gracie Walt to bring the match to a sudden halt.

The Saints will return to Helena this weekend and take some well-deserved time off ahead of winter ball and training next semester.
