Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Saints Clinch Spot in CCC Championship with 2-0 Win over Wolves

HELENA, Mont. - As the Cascade Collegiate Conferenc Championship draws, the Carroll Women's Soccer team now officially knows that they'll be one of the eight teams competing thanks to a 2-0 shutout win over Walla Walla on Sunday afternoon.

On a typical Fall afternoon on Valley Bank Field at Nelson Stadium, mother nature provided an array of conditions for the Fighting Saints 6-4-4, 4-4-2) to deal with against the Wolves.

The elements didn't slow down the Carroll attack, as the Saints maintained a steady pressure throughout the game with a season-high 34 shots in the win.

Following a scoreless first frame, Carroll's consistent push finally was rewarded in the early stages of the second. Hayley Smith (Woods Cross, Utah / JR) and Brynn Johnson (Hayden Lake, Idaho / JR) netted a pair of goals just minutes apart (51', 54'), providing more than enough ammo to get the victory.

Goalkeeper Maria Ackerman (Billings, Mont. / JR) didn't record a save thanks to a solid defensive effort by the backline, but instead put up a few shots of her own. For the final 15 minutes of action, the All-CCC keeper flipped the script, playing forward and registering a pair of shots.

Sunday's game featured a memorable moment at the start, as Courtnie Gagnon (Billings, Mont. / SR) - sidelined all season with a leg injury, was given the start in her final game at Nelson Stadium.

While postseason play is on the horizon, the Saints still have two more games next week as they look to better their seeding for the upcoming tournament. Carroll will head to Oregon for a pair against Bushnell and Corban next weekend to wrap up the 2025 regular season.
