The No. 25-ranked Carroll College women's basketball team jumped out early and kept No. 11 Montana State-Northern at bay, defeating the Skylights 63-49 on Tuesday in Havre, Montana.
Carroll junior Dani Wagner had a team-high 15 points. Joining her in double figures was
Maddie Geritz with 11 points.
Tiara Gilham led the Skylights with 16 points.
While the Saints (10-5, 2-1 Frontier Conference) couldn't find their stroke from the outside, hitting just 2-for-13 shots, Carroll used a large advantage in forced turnovers to make a big difference. The Saints turned MSU-N over 23 times and scored 30 points off those turnovers.
The Saints turned the ball over just 10 times.
The Saints started the game on a 6-0 run, which led to a 17-2 margin late into the first quarter. The Skylights battled back in the second quarter, but Carroll won the third quarter 20-10 and then went nearly even with the Skylights in the fourth to thwart any comeback hopes.
It's the second win over an NAIA Top 25 opponent for the Saints this season.
