No. 24 Saints Coast to 88-30 Win over Geoducks

SPOKANE, Wash. - The No. 24-ranked Carroll Women's Basketball team cruised to an 88-30 win over Evergreen State on Sunday afternoon, wrapping-up an undefeated opening weekend at the Northwest Crossover tournament.

After picking up a win over (RV) Eastern Oregon in the season opener, the Fighting Saints (2-0) carried momentum into the second day of their first tournament of the year, steamrolling the Geoducks 88-30.

The 2025-26 Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year, Jillian Kanduch (Miles City, Mont. / SO) was as good as ever in a dominant first quarter effort for the Saints. Kanduch poured-in 14 points in her nine minutes of work, going 5-7 from the floor, and an impressive 4-6 from three-point range. Kennedi Niemann (Cody, Wyo. / R-JR) and Makayla Coleman (Bozeman, Mont. / FR) each added six in the frame, as the Saints raced out to a 31-8 lead after one.

The Saints were a perfect 8-8 at the free throw line in the second quarter, led by a 6-6 effort from freshman Paeten Gunlock (Bigfork, Mont.). Both Gunlock and Halle Fitzgerald (Dillon, Mont. / R-So) scored six in the frame, while Kenzie Allen (Grantsville, Utah / SR) and Avery Kraft (Helena, Mont. / R-SO) each added four points in the second. Carroll again held the Geoducks to just eight points in the quarter, taking a 53-20 lead into the break.

The Carroll defense was suffocating in the third quarter, holding Evergreen State without a field goal, while forcing eight Geoduck turnovers. ESC did score four points in the frame however, all coming at the stripe. Kanduch added seven points to her tally, and Paeten Gunlock and Sadie Smith (Frenchtown, Mont. / R-SO) each scored four to help Carroll extend their lead again heading into the fourth.

The front court was a fourth quarter focus for the Fighting Saints. With the game well in hand, Carroll made a concerted effort to work through their forwards, as Makayla Coleman and Denvyr Tuss (Malta, Mont. / FR) each scored six, with Smith adding in four more to account for all 16 points for the Saints.

All said and done, Carroll shot better than 50 percent from the floor as a team in the win, all while holding Evergreen State to just 22 percent shooting. The Saints also dominated the glass, pulling down 43 boards to the Geoducks' 20, while forcing 27 total turnovers in the lopsided victory.

Kanduch led all players with 21 points in the win, while the freshman tandem of Coleman and Gunlock each scored 12.

The Saints will return to action next weekend in Lewiston, Idaho, taking on another pair CCC schools in Southern Oregon and (RV) Lewis-Clark State.
