HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College women's soccer team garnered the United Soccer Coaches' Team Academic Award for the 15th time in 16 years. The award is given for excellence in the classroom during the 2017-18 period.
"We had success in both the classroom and on the field," Saints coach Dave Thorvilson said. "Academic success sets our student-athletes apart."
The Saints women's team has won the award every season under Thorvilson, save 2009 due to an uncompleted nomination.
In order to receive the award, a team must post a 3.0 GPA average or better. The Saints have consistently done that under Thorvilson.
It's another in an impressive line of academic awards for the Saints.
Seniors
Talya Vaira and
Devan Murfitt were both honored at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago this past January. Both became USC NAIA All-American Scholar Athletes.
In addition, five Saints were named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Joining Vaira and Murfitt on this list were
Charly Clements,
Taryn Neameyer and
Rachel Quade. The award is given for students who post a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA.
Carroll was one of 215 schools -- regardless of classification -- that had both men's and women's soccer teams honored for their academic prowess.
