No. 19 Saints fall to Montana Tech

HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Tech women's basketball team locked down defensively in the second half en route to a 48-44 come from behind win over No. 19 Carroll College, Thursday evening at the PE Center in Helena.
 
The Saints rode an 11-0 first-half run to a 30-16 at the break. Kalee Junkermier scored eight of her 10 points in the first half to lead the Saints.
 
 After the break, the Diggers chipped away at the Carroll lead and tied the game at 40 with 5:55 left in the game.
 
Bailey Snelling hit a layup to give Carroll the 42-40 lead on the next Carroll possession but Tech went on a 6-0 run to take a lead that they would not relinquish.
 
Snelling led the Saints with 12 points; Junkermier and Cassidy Hashley each had 10 points for Carroll.
 
Kayla Dewit was the only Oredigger in double figures with 10 points. Hattie Thatcher had nine points and tallied a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Tech to a 48-29 rebounding advantage.
 
Carroll hit 18 field goals to Montana Tech's 17 but the Diggers were 13-of-14 (92.9 percent) from the free throw line compared to 6-of-10 (60 percent) for the Saints.
 
The loss was the fourth conference loss at home for Carroll. The Saints are 5-1 on the road in conference.
 
The Saints host No. 25 Lewis-Clark Saturday at 5:30 at the PE Center in the second game of the week.
 
The Saints sit in a tie for third place in the conference with the University of Great Falls at 7-5, Lewis-Clark is a half game behind the Saints and the Argos at 6-5.
