HELENA, Mont. – The No. 19 Carroll College women's basketball team hosts Montana Tech Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the PE Center in the first of three home games to close out the regular season.
Carroll (16-8, 7-4 Frontier Conference) is tied for third in the conference with No. 22 University of Great Falls. The Saints knocked of the Argos last Friday before falling at No. 11 Montana State University-Northern, Saturday.
Montana Tech (8-17, 0-10 FC) has yet to win a conference game but gave the Saints everything they wanted in a 62-60 Carroll win.
"We are excited to be back home for our final three games," head coach
Rachelle Sayers said. "Tech is a very good team, they have been beaten at the buzzer three times in conference and our game was down to the wire with them in Butte. We would expect nothing less than a 40 minute battle."
Three Orediggers average above double figures, Mandy Machinal with 13.16 points per game, Kayla DeWitt with 12.16 PPG and Martha Dembek with 10.8 PPG.
"They have a very good post game with Montana State transfer DeWitt and (Kambri) Emerson and a point guard ( Hattie Thatcher) that gets the ball moving up and down the court as well as anyone we have played this year," Sayers said. "We will have to stop their transition game and work hard to limit the amount of touches they get in the paint. More importantly, we are healthy and the kids are still working hard to get better, and those are critical at this point in the season."
Three Saints average just over 12 points per game. Freshman forward
Cassidy Hashley leads Carroll with 12.7 PPG followed by
Bailey Snelling with 12.5 PPG and Kaleey Junkermier with 12.1 PPG.
Carroll Athletics will hand out 500 rally towels at the game and the first 50 students that are in attendance will receive a free pretzel. The women's team will wear pink jersey's and fans are encouraged to wear Purple to support the Saints and bring awareness to Relay for Life.
