DICKINSON, N.D. – The Carroll College men's basketball team fell to NCAA DII Adams State 89-73 Friday at the Sam Milanovich Invitational in Dickinson N.D.
Oliver Carr scored a team-high 19 points and
Lorel Johnson added 10 points to lead the Saints.
Carroll and Adams State traded early leads but trailing 20-18 with 7:52 left in the first half the Grizzlies' Shakir Smith hit a 3-pointer to put his team up 21-20 and Adams State never trailed again, building a 34-29 lead at the half.
The Grizzlies extended their lead to 75-54 lead with 7:23 left in the game and led 89-68 with 1:04 remaining before Carroll closed with a five-point burst to end the game 89-73.
Adams State was 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from the three-point line and 30-of-51 (58.8 percent) from the field and Smith paced the Adams offense with 23 points.
The Saints outrebounded the Grizzlies 35-29 and were 19-of 21 (90.5 percent) from the free throw line but Adams hot hand could not be contained.
Carroll closes out the weekend against tournament host Dickinson State Saturday at 7 p.m.
