DICKINSON, N.D. – Zach Taylor scored 28 points to lead Carroll College to an 83-75 road win over Dickinson State Saturday evening.
Along with Taylor's 28 points,
Lorel Johnson scored a career high 18 points,
Matt Wyman tallied 13 and
Match Burnham scored 10 points.
The Saints jumped out to an 11-5 lead with 13:04 left in the first half and built it to a 26-16 lead with 4:59 left in the half before the Blue Hawks ended the half on a 17-5 run to take a 33-31 lead at the half.
Dickinson built their advantage to 38-33 before the Saints exploded with a 17-2 run to take a 50-40 lead with 13:33 left in the game.
DSU was able to cut the lead to 77-73 with 37 seconds left but the Saints closed the game on a 6-2 run to earn the 83-75 win.
Carroll was 27-of-49 (55.1 percent from the field) compared to 26-of-58 (44.8 percent) from the field for the Blue Hawks.
Carroll outrebounded DSU 33-27 and were 19-of-20 from the free throw line, led by Taylor's perfect 11-of-11 performance, while the Blue Hawks were just 18-of-28 from the charity stripe.
"The guys battled," head coach
Carson Cunningham said. "That was one of those true road games, gut check affairs and I thought our guys really grew through the course of the battle. Our effort was inspiring. Dickinson State really tested us, you've got to give them credit. Our goal, now, is to use this as momentum moving forward."
The Saints play host to Montana Tech Thursday at the PE Center in the Frontier Conference opener.
