HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College women's basketball team fell to the University of Great Falls 73-68 Saturday evening at the PE Center in Frontier Conference action.
Carroll led by as much as six in the first half but the Argos took broke a 29-29 tie with 17 seconds left on a 3-pointer by Stephanie McDonagh to give UGF a 32-29 advantage at the break.
UGF took control in the second half and built a 13-point lead with 11:42 to play. The Saints went on a 14-2 run to cut the lead to 53-52 with 5:43 remaining.
The Saints couldn't get over the hump however and the Argos were 11-12 from the free throw line over the final two minutes to earn the victory.
Cassidy Hashley led the Saints with 17 points and 10 rebounds,
Baylee Watson added 12 points and
Katie Estey added 11.
Four Argos reached double-digits with McDonagh leading the way with 17 points.
UGF dominated Carroll on the glass. The Argos held a 46-28 advantage including a 19-7 advantage on offensive rebounds.
"Its frustrating to get beat in areas that we pride ourselves in," head coach
Rachelle Sayers said. "UGF owned us on the glass all night and beat us to the ball countless times. We shot the ball well enough to win. We took them out of their transition game and we held their leading scorers well below their averages, but you aren't going to win against anyone when you give up 19 offensive rebounds."
The Saints will try to rebound from a two-straight losses when the travel to take on Lewis-Clark State next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. MST.
