HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll Basketball teams will begin their second loop through the Frontier Conference regular season, hosting Montana Western in a Thursday evening doubleheader at the Carroll College PE Center. The Women will get things started at 5 p.m. with the Men following at 7 p.m.
After one rotation through the league slate, the No. 22-ranked Women find themselves in familiar territory. The Fighting Saints (12-6, 4-1) sit atop the Frontier standings with No. 20 Rocky Mountain College.
The Saints played two wildly different games last week, but emerged victorious in both. Carroll put on an offensive showcase against the No. 20-ranked Bears on Thursday, winning 70-56, before picking up a hard fought 49-37 win at MSU-Northern in a game where points were hard to come by.
For the first time this season, the Saints enter the week with both the Frontier Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Kyndall Keller (Havre, Mont. / R-SR) earned OPOTW honors after averaging 20.0 ppg on the week, while
Willa Albrecht (Billings, Mont. / R-JR) was named DPOTW after pulling down 11 defensive boards, five steals and a block.
The Saints own a 16-game win streak in the series against Montana Western dating back to 2020. The first meeting between the two schools earlier this month in Dillon had plenty of excitement, as Carroll held on for a tight 56-54 win in the final seconds.
Another first for Carroll this year is the Men entering the week with a two game Frontier win streak. The Fighting Saints (7-11, 2-3) entered last week 0-3 in conference play, but went on to dominate both No. 19 Rocky, 96-80, and MSU-Northern, 80-58.
Something has clicked with the young team under the direction of first year Head Coach Dan Pearson, and the Saints are a scary team for any Frontier foe.
Isaiah Crane (Portland, Ore. / R-FR) was named Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 19.5 ppg in the first two conference wins of the year. The talented scorer is also now the league's top threat, leading the conference with a 17.1 ppg average.
Earlier this season in Dillon, the Bulldogs were led to victory by a 32 point effort from Kyle Gruhler, and the Saints will be looking to get their revenge in front of their home crowd this evening.
