HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Basketball teams will play their second road games of the week this afternoon as they battle Montana Tech in a Saturday doubleheader at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the HPER Complex.
The Carroll Women (10-5, 2-0) come into the contest on the heels of a nail-biting. 56-54 victory over Montana Western on Thursday evening in Dillon. The narrow victory was a testament to the experience and composure of the nation's No. 21-ranked team. On a night where the offense clearly wasn't as sharp as needed, the Saints relied on stout defense and a dominant effort on the glass to emerge victorious and remain at the top of the Frontier standings.
The Saints pulled down 54 rebounds in the win, led by a career-high effort from
Isabelle Erickson (Broadview, Mont. / R-JR). The 54 boards ties the most in the past three seasons, matching a 54-rebound effort in the Round of 16 at the 2023-24 NAIA Championship against Loyola (La.).
Carroll will look to continue their dominance over the Orediggers on Saturday. Dating back to the 2017-18 season, the Fighting Saints have won 23-straight in the series, with an average margin of victory of 16.6 points per game.
On the Men's side of the action, the Saints will look to string together a full 40 minutes of team ball. Carroll has come out of the gates hot in nearly every game this season, jumping out to quick leads, but struggling to maintain them.
Thursday night in Dillon, the Saints found themselves with a 14-point first half lead, but a 32-point effort from Western's Kyle Gruhler powered the Bulldogs to a win.
Going back to 2014, the Saints and Orediggers have had one of the most compelling series in the entire Frontier Conference. Carroll leads the series 21-15, but the Orediggers have had the advantage in recent years. Montana Tech has won eight of the last 10 in the series, including four games last season capped with a win in the Frontier Conference Championship game.Â
The two schools have been the class of the Frontier in recent years, winning a combined six Frontier titles since 2017, and the pair were the conference's only two NAIA Tournament teams a year ago.
Tip off for the Women is slated for 2 p.m., with the Men to follow at 4 p.m.Â
