Women's Basketball | 10/30/23 | 9:54 AM
SPOKANE, Wash. - The No. 6-ranked Carroll Women's Basketball team is back in action today for their first road game of the season at NCAA Division III opponent, Whitworth, at 2:30 p.m. in Spokane.
The Fighting Saints (0-1) suffered a two-point setback to the nation's No. 4 team in their season opener, but will look to put a tally in the win column this afternoon against a Pirate team making their season debut.
Carroll and Whitworth don't often meet, having played only four times dating back to 2004. The all-time series is split 2-2, with the Saints having won the last matchup 88-61 in Helena back in 2021.
Jamie Pickens (Helena, Mont. / GR) finished with 13 points and four rebounds in the game.
Speaking of Pickens, she started the 2023-24 campaign out with a sneaky double-double in the opener. Pickens posted 12 points and 10 rebounds against a Wildcat team that will surely be a contender come tournament time.
Pickens' partner in the paint,
Maddie Geritz (Boise, Idaho / GR) was stellar in the opener as well, finishing with a game-high and career-best 18 points.
Carroll will look to feed the ball in to the pair this afternoon and allow the offense to move through the two senior leaders.
A pair of Saints will be making their homecoming this afternoon,
Erica Nessan (Spokane, Wash. / GR) who is slated to get the start at the point, and
Elliot Hencz (Spokane, Wash. / SO).
Today's road game will not be streamed, but live stats can be followed along
