HELENA, Mont. - The Carroll College Men's Soccer Team started their 2022 on a high note, as they defeated the University of Lethbridge 1-0 in an exhibition match Sunday afternoon at Nelson Stadium in Helena.
A long-awaited start to the season was delayed a bit longer than expected for the Saints Men. The Pronghorns of Lethbridge were delayed in their travels while trying to cross the United States - Canadian border this morning. They did, however, make it safely to Helena, and played a wide-open game in the heat of the afternoon with the Saints.
Opportunities were hard to come by in the first half. The majority of play took place in the middle of the pitch, with a few sporadic flashes of hope for each squad.Â
Forward
Rory Bloy (Johannesburg, South Africa / SR) had a couple of chances to put the Saints ahead, but narrowly missed on his several attempts, resulting in a tie game headed into the halftime break.
Play continued to be neck-and-neck throughout the majority of the second half, until a blast from the mid-field broke the game open. Coming off a corner kick, the ball ricocheted out away from the net. Winger
Luke Rosenberger (Eau Claire, Wisc. / JR) stepped into one, and played a beautiful ball that hung in the air and splashed into the top-right corner of the net, over the outstretched arms of the Pronghorn keeper. The late goal proved to be the decider, as the Saints held off a final push to finish the game.
The Saints Men have a quick turnaround, when they play host to MSU Billings in another exhibition contest on Tuesday, August 16 at 2 p.m. in Nelson Stadium.Â
