KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Luis Barreto scored three goals, including one from the penalty spot, to lead the Carroll College Men's Soccer team to a 4-1 conference win over Oregon Tech on Saturday afternoon at OIT Soccer Field.
The Fighting Saints (4-2-3, 3-1-1) outshot the Owls 9-3 in the first half, and Barreto (Marracaibo, Venezuela / JR) broke through in the 39th minute with assists from Nils Benning (Kiel, Germany / SR) and Sam Loughton (East Yorkshire, England / SR), putting Carroll ahead 1-0 at the break.
Daniel Jones (Luton, England / FR) doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, finishing off a Pedro Teixeira (Braga, Portugal / R-SR) assist. Oregon Tech (5-3-3, 1-3-1) cut the deficit to 2-1 five minutes later, when Merrick Tambio scored off a Sammy Villalta assist.
The Saints answered quickly. Barreto struck again in the 75th minute off another Benning assist, then converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute to complete the hat trick and set the final score. The defender played all 90 minutes and finished with four shots, three on goal.
Carroll dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Oregon Tech 21-11 and putting 11 shots on goal to the Owls' four. The Saints also held a 17-4 edge in corner kicks. Benning finished with two assists, and Felix Billard (Mallorco, Spain / SR) put all three of his shots on goal.
Noah Jordan (Deer Park, Wash. / JR) made three saves in net for Carroll.Â
The Saints will turn their attention towards a weekend road trip against College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon next Friday and Saturday.
