MARION, Ind. - The No. 4 Carroll Women's Basketball team will take on No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan tonight as part of the Leah Whittaker Memorial Tournament in Marion, Ind. at 4 p.m. (MST).
Carroll (2-2) continues their gauntlet of a non-conference slate this weekend in the Eastern time zone, today squaring off with No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan (3-1) in another Top-15 matchup. Tonight's game is part of the Leah Whittaker Memorial tournament, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan, featuring No. 4 Carroll, No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan, No. 7 Marian, and Reinhardt University, who was an NAIA National Tournament qualifier in 2021-22.
Head Coach Rachelle Sayers made it no secret that she wanted to challenge her team early on in this 2022-23 season, playing four NAIA National Tournament teams, three Top-15 teams, and one NCAA Division II opponent in their first five countable games.
Sayers' hope for this new-look Saints squad, still learning to play together, is the experience playing top competition early in the year will prepare the Saints for a Frontier Conference title run, and an extended push in the NAIA National Tournament come Spring.
This marks the first meeting between the Saints and the Wildcats, two schools that are nationally recognized and have multiple sports ranked in their respective NAIA polls.
Carroll will look to get Preseason All-Frontier Conference selection Sienna Swannack (Nine Mile Falls, Wash. / GR) rolling tonight. Swannack has proven she can play with anyone in the country and is capable of hitting the big shots in the big moments, but is off to a relatively slow start to 2022-23. She enters tonight averaging 8.3 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game.
The Saints will look to slow down forward Jade Nutley and guard Lilli Frasure, who are averaging 18 and 17 points per game, respectively, for the Wildcats.
The teams share one common opponent on the year, both having fallen to No. 1 Thomas More, who remains unbeaten.
