VANCOUVER, Wash. -- The Carroll College Women's Soccer team will play their long awaited first games of the season on Sunday and Monday. The road to opening the season has been a long one, but they are more than ready to get out on the field and take advantage of the opportunity. Being a part of the Cascade Conference, the Saints had to navigate strict restrictions on their practices during the fall and were not able to play any games.Â
Coach Dave Thorvilson stated, "Working through the unknown waters of Covid while being in-person has prepared us to play the upcoming spring matches at a high level."
The girls defense will be anchored by Sydney Green and Katie Anderson. Green is a senior captain in goal and Anderson, a junior captain, will be slotted in at center back.Â
Also a senior, Josie Snyder has embraced a new role in the midfield as a veteran that will likely play a big part in Carroll's success this spring season.
It will be the local duo of Katie Martin and Brynn Walker with high expectations to lead the attack and be consistent goal scorers for the Saints.Â
Coach Thorvilson also cites "very strong freshman and sophomore classes" that will be able to contribute early on in the season and balance out the veteran presence the Saints bring back from last season. Zoie Althoff and Morgan Ferestad played together in high school at Billings Central and will be newcomers to watch as part of the strong recruiting class brought in for the Saints this season.Â
Originally the Saints were scheduled to play Multnomah this weekend, however they have opted out of the spring conference season leaving Carroll to scramble for games. Luckily the Saints were able to land Western Oregon for 9 a.m. PST on Sunday and will play Vancouver Victory FC (an amateur women's team) in a scrimmage at 3 p.m. Monday.
