HELENA, Mont. -- The No. 6-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints women's basketball team will open up the Frontier Conference season with a tilt against Montana Tech on Thursday in Butte, Montana.
The contest will mark the first play date for the Saints (5-0) since November 28, when the Saints capped off the Thanksgiving Classic with a 99-48 win over Lewis-Clark State College.
"I know the girls are excited to get back on the court and play a game," Saints coach
Rachelle Sayers said. "They have been working extremely hard, even with the limited numbers we have had in practice. "I am confident that our experience and maturity will help us through these tough days. "Every team is, will be or has been in the same situation we are with lost games, so we just have to go out and do the best that we can do and appreciate the opportunity to do so."
On Wednesday, the Saints became the No. 6 ranked team in the NAIA in the Poll No. 1 by head coaches. The Saints' 5-0 start with a 26.8 point scoring margin per win were large parts of the boosted ranking.
The Saints enter the contest with the No. 2 total rebound defense in the NAIA at 27.6, while also holding the No. 6 total rebound margin at 16.
Three Fighting Saints average double figures in scoring, led by Dani Wagner and
Jamie Pickens, who both average 13.8 points per game. Dani is also the No. 10th ranked three-point shooter in the NAIA with her 57% accuracy from deep.
Christine Denny also adds in 12.8 points per game.
The Orediggers (1-1) have two games under their belt, playing Montana Western last weekend and splitting the contests. Mollie Peoples leads the Orediggers with 20.5 points per game, while Tavia Rooney adds 16 and Brooke Heggie scores 10.
The game is scheduled to tipoff at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
