HELENA, Mont. -- The Carroll College women's soccer team heads down to Billings to play in the 6th Annual Rim Rock Classic.
"We get to play two Division II schools that are typically more physical," Saints coach
David Thorvilson said. "It will be a nice matchup for us, athletically-speaking, going against teams that are a little bigger than us. It forces us to get better against set-pieces and limiting opportunities."
On Thursday, the Fighting Saints will take on MSUB for the second time this season, only this time the game is not an exhibition and will count for the record. They will also play Black Hills State two days later on Saturday.
MSUB is winless this season, currently sitting with a record of 0-1-1 after a 3-1 loss to Westminster College, and tying 3-3 with California State University Dominguez.
MSUB looks to have scoring threats all over the field as Haylee Gunter, Alexa Lacolucci, Lindsey Meyer, and Haley German have all scored for the Yellow Jackets this season. Although, in an exhibition game earlier this season, nobody for MSUB could score as the Saints beat MSUB 1-0.
Black Hills State senior Katie Nielson has scored two goals for the Yellow Jackets this season in each of their losses. One loss came in OT where Black Hills lost to Dakota Wesleyan University 2-3. Black Hills State record is currently 0-2-0.
The Fighting Saints are looking for another big performance out of senior Kayla Welch who has four goals on the season, as well as another goal in the exhibition against MSUB. Carroll is currently sitting at a record of 2-1-0 and looking to pick up two road wins this week on their trip to Billings.
The match against MSUB will be on Thursday at 4 pm followed by Black Hills State on Saturday at 12 pm.
Weather permitting, a stream will be available through
MSUB's Stretch Internet portal.
