Carroll women's basketball takes Montana to OT, falling 74-70

HELENA, Mont. -- The No 7-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints forced overtime, but eventually fell to Division I University of Montana, 74-70, on Tuesday in an exhibition in Missoula, Montana.

Christine Denny, Dani Wagner, Sienna Swannack, and Kamden Hilborn all scored double figures for the Saints.

Denny tied for a game-high 19 points with Montana's McKenzie Johnston.

The Saints shot 42.4 percent from the field, while the Lady Griz shot 40.6 from the field.

Lady Griz guard Taylor Gogliogoski hit a three-pointer with 40 seconds left to tie the game at 65. Denny's jumper with 28 seconds left didn't go and the Saints went to overtime.

The Saints struck first in overtime, as Denny hit a free throw.

Montana answered with a Goligoski three-pointer before Hilborn hit a jumper to once again tie it at 68.

After that, the Lady Griz took the lead and didn't relinquish it.

For the Saints, who knocked off Boise State in 2017, it was another close game against a Division I team. It bodes well for an early-season schedule that features many difficult games.

Carroll's next game is on Saturday against Cal Maritime University in the PE Center.
