HELENA, Mont. -- The No. 7 Carroll College Fighting Saints women's basketball team is gearing up for their second game of the season against the Yotes of College of Idaho on Thursday in the team's Annual Field Trip Game. After falling to the University of Calgary 61-45 in their home opener, the Fighting Saints are looking to bounce back.
"I thought we were concerned about tempo and not concerned enough with being the aggressor on offense against Calgary," Saints coach
Rachelle Sayers said. "Tomorrow the focus will be to come out aggressively... We need to use speed and quickness."
College of Idaho was picked to finish 4th in the Cascade Conference Preseason poll. This will be the second time in three years the two teams have met. Back in 2017, Carroll beat the Yotes 48-37 while playing on the road in Caldwell, Idaho.
"Obviously this is College of Idaho's first game so we don't know a lot about them. We know they have two of their returning starters and top scorers back from last year." Sayers said.
The Saints will hope to get back on the right foot and move to 1-1.When speaking on this year's team, coach Sayers said, "I think we have the three best point guards in the league, so we really need to utilize that to our advantage. We are going to try to force the tempo a little more and create turnovers."
Carroll welcomes in over 2,000-area students as part of the Field Trip Game.
The game is scheduled for Thursday at 12 p.m. in the PE Center. If you cannot attend the game be sure to tune into the live stream on the Carroll Athletics YouTube page using the link below.
