HELENA, Mont. – Carroll women's soccer begins Cascade Conference play Friday against Corban and Saturday against Northwest Christian both games are scheduled for 2 p.m. at Nelson Stadium.
"We are excited to be finished with the first phase of the year and looking forward to playing our rivals and the teams we know well," head coach
David Thorvilson said.
Carroll women's soccer is on a four-game shutout streak, and goalkeeper Devin Murfitt has a stellar Goal against average of .880.
Payton Netz had a pair of goals and a pair of assists in last weekend's home games.
The Carroll squad is playing at an exceptional level after starting the season 0-2.
"We opened up with two very tough teams (No. 17 Hastings and NCAA Northwest Nazarene), and that reminded us that we had work to do," Thorvilson said. "We've improved. In the last few games, we have been the team on the attack and getting more shots than the other team. I am interested to see how we respond when we play a team that is more aggressive. "
Corban is nothing if not aggressive. The Warriors are 5-3 and opened conference play last week with two road wins. Corban has scored 14 goals so far this season with Annouska Kordom leading the way with five goals on the year. Defensively, the Warriors have given up nine goals.
"They are big, physical and athletic," Thorvilson said. "They love to send numbers and force you to make mistakes, and I don't expect anything different despite their long bus trip."
Northwest Christian is 1-3-1 on the year but is coming off their first win of the season over Evergreen last week in Tacoma. Despite their schedule, Thovilson knows they are a dangerous team.
"Northwest Christian is not easy to beat," he said. "They haven't had a ton of wins, but they can beat anyone on any day. We are going to have to play hard for 90 minutes."
The games will be live streamed on the Carroll Youtube Channel.
