Carroll Women Fall to Sizable Utah Team 70-46

Box Score

SALT LAKE CITY –
Bailey Pasta scored five of her team-high 10 points on the Saints' first two possession to put Carroll up 5-2 early over the University of Utah, but the Utes' size was too much for the Saints as the Pac-12 opponent cruised to a 70-46 win over Carroll at the Huntsman Center on the U of U campus Thursday.

Despite trailing by a large margin, the Saints battled throughout, outscoring the Utes 27-25 in the second half and 17-9 in the fourth quarter.

The Utah lineup is large, even for the division I women's game and is closer to the size of a Frontier Conference men's team with 10 players on the roster over 6-foot and four players over 6-foot-4.

After leading 5-3, the Utes jumped out to a 21-9 lead and led 45-19 at the half. They extended the lead to 55-21 in the third quarter before the Saints began chipping away.

Pasta scored her other five points in the final 3:20 of the game, including a layup with four second remaining to cut the final score to 70-46.

Eleven Saints recorded minutes in the game and nine scored. Hannah Dean had another productive game with eight points, two assists and a team-high five rebounds.

Carroll was 19-47 (40.4 percent) from the field and (4-15 (26.7 percent) from the three-point line.

Utah tallied a 41-26 advantage in rebounds and a 38-20 advantage in the paint.

The game was the second of three exhibition games against NCAA DI opponents for the Saints, but Carroll plays the College of Idaho in Caldwell Saturday in the true season opener.
