HELENA, Mont. – Carroll women's soccer is unbeaten in their last six outings at 5-0-1 but the road doesn't get easier for the defending conference Champions this week as Carroll takes on the College of Idaho Friday in Caldwell and Rocky Mountain College Sunday in Billings.
The Saints have six shutouts on the season and five in the last six matches. Goalkeeper
Jamie Carter was named the Cascade Defensive Player of the Week.
Michaela Kueffler leads the Saints with five goals on the season, tied of third in the conference.
Carroll will need to adjust after a tough road trip that and be ready to play against two very tough competitors.
"We need our defense to come ready to play. Both teams are going to be excited to come at us and everything starts with our defense," head coach
David Thorvilson said. "We need Michaela to set a high tone and be aggressive and take the opportunity to score or set her teammates up to score."
The Saints look to avenge their only conference loss from a season ago. C of I won scored in the third minute and held on for 90 minutes to earn the 1-0 win. The Saints would go on to win the conference crown while the Yotes finished in a tie for second Before falling to Eastern Oregon 4-0 in the Cascade Conference tournament.
"Going into the college of Idaho game, we weren't prepared to start the game and gave up the early goal," Thorvilson said. "We expect the same as last year early. They are going to be excited to play the reigning champions and they are going to come right at us and get another early goal. We need to keep them out of our defensive third."
This season, C of I is off to a 4-2 record but have played just one match in Cascade play, a 2-1 loss against Rocky.
Jamiece Yizar leads the Yotes with three goals and two assists on the year.
After a travel day Saturday, the Saints take on longtime rival Rocky Mountain in Billings. The Bears are 4-3 and have won four of their last five matches.
Lauryn Gamache leads the Bears with three goals on the season. Leah Hippaufis second on the team with two goals but she has impress Thorvilson with her play.
"Rocky is very good on corner kicks and set pieces. Leah Hippauf is very good at wining balls in the air," Thorvilson said. "Being the second game on the road after a long road trip, we will have to adjust to the travel and be prepared mentally and physically."
The Saints and Yotes take the field at 4:30 p.m. live stats and video will be available for the match. The Saints and Bears take the field at 3 p.m. Video will be available via the Rocky Mountain Youtube channel.
