HAVRE, Mont. – The 15th-ranked Carroll College men fell on the road to MSU-Northern 69-60 Friday at the Armory in Havre.
The Saints built an early 13-8 lead but the Lights tied the game at 32 at the break. David Straughter hit a 3-pointer with 16:42 left in the game to give MSU-Northern the lead that they would not relinquish. The Saints made runs but could never regain the lead as MSUN earned the nine-point win.
Zach Taylor led the Saints with 19 points,
Ryan Imhoff had 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds and
Match Burnham tallied 11 points.
The Saints were 23 of 53 (43.3 percent) from the field but just 4 of 18 (22.2 percent from three-point range.
MSU-Northern was 22 of 51(43.1 percent) but a much better 8 of 19 (42.1 percent) from the three-point line.
Carroll outrebounded the Lights 31-28 but turned the ball over 13 times to MSU-Northern's six.
"MSU-Northern played well down the stretch, and we didn't finish or get the stops we needed," head coach
Carson Cunningham said. "It's frustrating, but we've got to face up to it and correct it quickly because we play again tomorrow. I'm hopeful the guys will respond with better execution."
The Saints play the University of Great Falls Saturday in Great Falls. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
