HELENA, Mont. – The Carroll College women's soccer team travels to Portland to face Warner Pacific Friday before traveling to face Eastern Oregon Saturday in the first Cascade Conference road trip ever for the Saints.
The Saints are 4-3 and coming off of three-straight shutout wins, including a 2-0 weekend to start Cascade play. The Knights on the other hand are 1-4-2 but Carroll head coach David Thorvilson knows that the record isn't everything and is expecting a tough contest from Warner.
"Warner Pacific doesn't have a winning record but they had an exceptional year last season they are struggling to find what they had last year but they have potential," Thorvilson said. "It makes you nervous because they are better than their record shows and they will be ready to play."
The nights opened Cascade play with losses to Northwest (3-2) and Evergreen (2-1).
Saturday the Saints make the quick turnaround to face the undefeated Eastern Oregon Mountaineers.
In seven matches, the Mounties have earned six shutouts and have outscored their opponents 41-2. Thorvilson knows that EOU presents a stiff challenge early in the Cascade slate.
"Eastern Oregon is undefeated and they aren't receiving the regional recognition but they are a strong program and could be the team to beat in the Cascade moving forward," Thorvilson said.
The trip to Le Grande for the match doesn't make the prospects of facing an undefeated team any easier.
"I think coach (Mike) Van Diest would agree with this but La Grande is a tough place to play," Thorvilson said. "It is isolated, the wind blows a lot and for us it will be the second of a back-to-back road trip with a two long travel days, not to mention a very good opponent. It will be a good test for us."
The Saints face Warner at 3 p.m. PST Friday and Eastern Oregon at 4 p.m. PST Saturday.
