HELENA, Mont. – Bailey Snelling hit two free throws with 2:25 remaining in the Carroll College's Friday night 67-41 win over Milligan College (Tenn.). The points were Snellings nine an 10th points of the game, they also were the 999th and 1,000th points of her career.
"It is special to me because I have witnessed every single one of those 1,000 points," head coach Rachelle Sayers said. "Bailey came in with me in my first class and she has meant so much to this program with the way she plays and the heart that she shows out on the court."
For her part, Snelling is just glad the shots went in.
"I knew it was for 1,000 but the pressure wasn't bad. It would have been real embarrassing though if I would have missed the front end of that 1-and-1," Snelling said. "It is nice to have it done and over with. I don't like to have that pressure hanging over me. Now I can concentrate on the rest of the season."
Sayers echoes the sentiments of Snelling. The 6-3 Saints have a tough tournament in Las Vegas next weekend and another home non-conference game on Jan. 4, before getting into the tough Frontier Slate.
"This was a big accomplishment for Bailey but she isn't satisfied," Sayers said. "She wants and expects this team to accomplish a lot of great thing. There are a lot of exciting things left this season."
Kalee Junkermier led the Saints with 18 points and Cassidy Hashley and Jordan Johnston had nine each for the Saints. Hashley also tallied a game-high 10 rebounds.
"Kalee is another player, like Bailey that has been through a lot and means a ton to this program," Sayers said. "Her shoulder has been bothering her, we weren't even sure she was going to play tonight but she said she was sore but was going to play and you have to trust your senior."
Hayley Wyrick had 16 points to lead the 2-10 Buffaloes.
The Saints outrebounded Milligan 55-37 and held them to 15-of -59 from the field (.254) including 2-of-11 (.182) from three-point range.
The Saints distributed the ball well and notched 13 assists in the game with just eight turnovers.
Carroll plays three games in three days next week at the Frontier Las Vegas Shootout. The Saints play Campbellsville (Ky.) Thursday, Vangaurd (Calif.), Friday and Hope International (Calif.) Saturday.
