HELENA, Mont. – With injuries stacking up for the Carroll College men's basketball team, the Saints needed a spark off the bench. Friday night at the PE Center, freshman
Dane Warp provided it, scoring a career-high 24 points to lead Carroll to a 76-58 victory over the University of Great Falls.
UFG scored first and built an 8-4 lead before a the Saints battled back scoring six-straight to take their first lead, a 10-8 advantage that would be short-lived. UGF answered with a three-pointer to take an 11-10 lead, but Warp answered on the other end to give Carroll a lead that they would not relinquish.
The Saints built a 39-27 lead at the half, spurred by Warp's 15 points and nine from
Steven Helm.
The Argos cut the Carroll lead to 47-40 with 15:00 to play in the game but the Saints rattled off seven-straight points to build a 54-40 lead and never looked back.
Carroll built the lead to 76-56 with 27 seconds left before the Argos cut the lead to 76-58 to close out the scoring in the 18-point Carroll win.
The Saints were 28-57 (49.1 percent) from the field, including 15-25 (60 percent) in the second half. Joining Warp in double figures was Helm with 11 and
Ryan Imhoff who tallied 12 points in the 13 minutes of time, the Saints' leading scorer was limited with foul trouble. Warp also had a game-high seven rebounds.
UGF was 21-41 (51.2 percent) from the field. Jared Schultz led the Argos with 17 points, and Isaac Howard tallied 12.
The Saints remain a game up on Montana Western in the Frontier Conference standings at 22-5 overall and 12-3 in conference.
