JOLIET, Ill. – Matt Wyman scored 18 points,
Oliver Carr 17 and
Ryan Imhoff tallied his first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Carroll College to a 67-57 road win over St. Francis at the Sullivan Center in suburban Chicago Saturday evening.
St. Francis, also known as the Fighting Saints, led early, but back-to-back buckets from Wyman with 14:28 in the first half gave Carroll the 11-8 lead, and they would never trail again.
Carroll built the lead to 36-26, but a shot from St. Francis' Terrion Howard with nine seconds left in the half, cut the Saints' lead to eight at the break.
Carroll extended the lead to 42-31, the largest of the game with 16:14 left. The two teams battled back forth for the remainder of the game but an emphatic dunk from
Ryan Imhoff in the waning seconds closed out the 10-point win.
"I'm really impressed with our guys' ability to grind out a true road win," Cunningham said. "This was a fun, physical affair and the Fighting Saints responded. Carr and Imhoff managed to assert themselves in the paint, in particular, and Wyman flew around like a bee with hot sauce. Our guards handled the full court press and extended 1-3-1 zone nicely. It'll be nice now to get a couple of home games."
The Saints were 25-46 (54.3 percent) from the field, although they struggled shooting the three-pointer at 2-8 (25 percent). St. Francis was 22-58 (37.9 percent) from the field and 9-22 (40.9 percent) from the three-point line.
St. Francis outrebounded Carroll 37-29.
The Saints move to 4-0 on the year. The next host Our Lady of the Lake(Texas) on Nov. 17 and Southwestern Christian (Okla.) on Nov. 18 at the PE Center in Helena.
