BUTTE, Mont. – The fourth-ranked Carroll college football team fell to Montana Tech 19-10 Saturday in a Frontier Conference road game at Alumni Coliseum in Butte.
Montana Tech outscored the Saints 16-7 in the second half after going into the locker room tied 3-3 at the break.
Mac Roche was 14-of 26 for 167 yards and two interceptions, he was also sacked four times in the loss.
Ryan Walsh scored the lone touchdown for the Saints, a two yard run to give the Saints a 10-3 lead on the first drive of the second half. It would be the final points for the Saints but the Diggers would add three field goals and a touchdown on a 37-yard run by Nolan Saraceni.
The Saints had a lead in the second quarter when
Colter Hamel hit on a 30-yard field goal to cap a 13-play 55-yard drive.
Tech answered with a field goal of their own from Matt Berg with 25 seconds left in the first half. Berg would end the day with four field goals and a P.A.T.
The Carroll defense played hard and for the second-consecutive week allowed only one offensive touchdown but field goals were enough for Montana Tech.
Dawson Osborne,
Adam DeBruycker and
Kyle Smith had 10 tackles each to lead the Saints defense.
Beaugh Meyer had seven tackles including two tackles for loss.
Matt Wymore recovered a fumble on a mishandled pitch, the only Saints turnover forced in the game.
Elliot McGill tallied a sack and
Jake Konen and
Kyle Smith had a half sack each.
The Saints return to action next Saturday for a homecoming game against Rocky Mountain at 1 p.m. at Nelson Stadium.
