BILLINGS, Mont. –
Cassidy Hashley scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Carroll College women's basketball team to a 58-56 win over Rocky Mountain, the seventh consecutive road win for the Saints.
The Saints (14-6, 5-2 FC) jumped out to a 14 point lead just four minutes into the game before the Bears (9-9, 2-5) got back into the game.
Rocky then went on a nine-point run to cut the lead to 11-16 with 12 minutes to play in the half. The Saints again built a double-digit but the Bears cut the deficit to 28-22 at the break.
The Bears started the second half on a seven-point run to take their first lead of the game with 17:44 left to play. The Saints answered on the next Carroll possession with a
Katie Estey 3-pointer.
That three-pointer spurred an 11-point Carroll run that put the Saints up 39-29 with 13:46 remaining.
Rocky battled to take a 54-53 lead with 4:26 remaining in the game. Niether team scored for over three minutes when
Baylee Watson hit a basket in the Paint to give the Saints back the lead with 1"07 remaining.
Bailey Snelling went to the line for the Saints with 17 seconds remaining and a one-point Saints lead. Her first shot fell but her second missed. Hashley rebounded the miss to put the Saints up four.
Rocky hit a shot with two second left but it wasn't enough and the Saints won 58-56.
"It was another great road win," head coach
Rachelle Sayers said. "I love the fight and composure from our team. Cassi got us a huge offensive rebound when we needed it."
Rebounding was a trend for Carroll. The Saints dominated the boards 43-27 including a 12-1 advantage on offensive rebounds.
"We lost two home games because we didn't rebound and now we have won three on the road because we are doing a great job rebounding," Sayers said. "We only gave up one offensive rebound and we get 12, that is huge. Rocky threw a lot at us, but our kids just kept battling."
Bailey Snelling scored 13 points and
Katie Estey tallied 12 for the Saints.
The Saints close out the first-half of the Frontier schedule with a 5-2 conference record. All of those wins came on the road.
The Saints will be home Thursday for the University of Montana-Western. The Saints defeated the Bulldogs 64-59 in the first meeting.
