STOCKTON, Calif. – Freshman guard Ife Kalejaye hit a pair of free throws with 4:16 remaining to cut the University of the Pacific lead to 71-70 but that is as close as Carroll College would come as the Tigers pulled away in the final minutes for the 79-72 exhibition win over the Saints Saturday at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton.
 
Five Saints scored in double figures, led by Oliver Carr with 17 points. Zach Taylor tallied 14, Ryan Imhoff had 13 and freshmen Sam McMahon and Match Burnham had 10 each for the Saints.
 
Carroll was 23-of-52 (44.2 percent) from the field while Pacific was 27-of-52 (51.9 percent). The Tigers made 10 three pointers to the Saints seven but Carroll outscored the Tigers 30-24 in the paint and 20-11 off of turnovers.
 
Carroll forces 19 turnovers and only had 13 while notching 15 assists.
 
"We battled but ultimately came up short, which is a bummer," head coach Carson Cunningham said. "We've grown as a team in the past week. If we can do that every week, we'll be all right. I'm grateful we have players who are willing to work towards improvement, who are willing to embrace the grind."
 
The Saints outscored pacific 39-37 in the second half after trailing 42-33 at the break.
 
David Taylor led Pacific with 19 points, Jacob Lampkin tallied 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds and Maleke Haynes also scored 13 for the Tigers.
 
The Saints remain in the Bay Area for a Monday game against No. 14 Cal at Haas Pavilion at 8 p.m. MDT. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network with Ted Robinson and Mike Montgomery on the call.
