Saints Face Rocky in Road Tilt

THIS WEEK IN CARROLL FOOTBALL

The Saints travel to Rocky Mountain this week looking to get back to a winning record.  The last time these two teams met, Roche connected with Fohn on a 55 yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left to lead Carroll to a 42-36 win.  The Saints are .500 on the season and close out the year with apair of road games. 

The game will be broadcast on tape delay on SWX in Billings. 

LAST GAME: SAINTS STEAMROLL MSU-NORTHERN 62-7
A power outage delayed the game but the MSU Northern Lights never got switched on as Carroll College cruised to a 62-7 win at Nelson Stadium.

Ryan Gregory ran back the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown to set the tone and the Saints never looked back.

Carroll scored on the first five possessions and carried a 42-0 lead into halftime. The Saints added three more touchdowns in the second half while Northern managed just one touchdown on a 77-yard touchdown pass from Jess Krahn to Jake Messerly.

Mac Roche was 13 of 18 passing for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Walsh carried the ball 13 times for a season high 155 yards and a touchdown. Connor Poulson, Dylan Green and Travis Knoll all added rushing touchdowns.

Seven Saints caught passes with Connor McGree, Troy Arntson and Andy Ritter scoring touchdowns.

ABOUT ROCKY MOUNTAIN
Brian Armstrong enters his eight season as head coach of Rocky Mountain.  Rocky's offense ranks sixth in the conference with 25.9 points per game and their defense is seventh with 33.1 points per game allowed.

Senior defensive back Eric Buer leds Rocky Mountain's defense with 83 totals on the season, and ranking third in conference with 9.3 tackles per game.

The Battlin' Bears feature a dynamic passing offense led by quarterback Chase White.  White has amassed 2327 passing yards and 12 touchdowns.  White's favorite target all year is All-American wide receiver Andre McCollouch with 59 receptions for 893 yards and 8 touchdowns.

QUICK NOTES

• The Saints look for their second consecutive win against Saturday on the road against Rocky Mountain. The Saints defeated MSU-Northern to move to 4-4 on the season.

• Rocky's Andre  McCullouch is first in the conference in receiving by a large margin. The senior has 893 yards in nine games this season, including eight touchdowns.

•Chase White ranks second in the conference in total offensive yards per game with 267.6 yards.  White leads all the Frontier with 2327 passing yards. 

• The senior defensive back Eric Buer is third in conference in tackles per game with 9.2 tackles.  Buer ranks second with 83 total tackles on the season.

• After tallying an atypical 15 penalties against Southern Oregon to start the season, the Saints have cut their penalty yards significantly and are now second in the conference in penalty yards per game. 

• The Saints are ranked fourth in the Frontier Conference for scoring defense after only giving up seven points last week to MSU-Northern.

• After seven games, Mac Roche Ranks 27th in the NAIA for passing yards per game with 209 yards.

• Roche ranks in the top 50 in the NAIA in passing yards per game, total passing, total offense per game, total offense and pass efficiency.

• Roche was named the Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against SOU. James Dowgin was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the performance against UMW.

• Beaugh Meyer is 37th in the nation for tackles for loss per game at 1.3.

• Southern Oregon's 20 points against Carroll in week one was the lowest point output since a 2011 loss to Mary Hardin Baylor.

• Roche's four touchdown passes against Rocky Mountain is the high to date for the Frontier Conference.

• James Dowgin is second in the Frontier for tackles per game at 9.9. Greg Tucker is fifth with 8.5.

• Connor Fohn scored his first touchdowns as a Saint against Rocky Mountain and followed that up with a third quarter go-ahead score against Montana Western. The first was a 50-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The second was the game-winning 55-yarder with seven second remaining.

• Fohn broke out with 148 receiving yards on four catches against Rocky and followed that up with 137 yards against Montana Western.

• Running back Ryan Walsh is second on the team with 25 catches and is second on the team with 312 receiving yards.

• Walsh is seventh in the Frontier for rushing yards per game at 58.6 YPG.

• Beaugh Meyer is tied for third in the conference for tackles for loss per game at 1.3 and tied for 15th in the Frontier for sacks per game at 0.3.

•  Five Saints receivers: Connor Fohn, Eric Dawson, Troy Arntson, Connor McGree and Conner Poulson caught their first passes in a Carroll uniform against Southern Oregon. With a slew of injuries on the receiving corps, defensive back Ryan Gregory caught his first pass against as a Saint against Eastern Oregon.

• The Saints were unranked two weeks ago for the first time in a record 187 weeks in the poll. The last time Carroll was unranked was Oct. 31 2000.

• Head Coach Mike Van Diest has the best winning percentage (.848) of any active college football coach with more than ten years of experience. His winning percentage is also the fifth-best of all time behind Larry Kehres - .929 (Mount Union 1961-2012), Knute Rockne  - .881(Notre Dame 1918-1930), Frank Leahey  - .864 (Boston College, Notre Dame (1939-1953) and Bob Reade .862 (Augustana 1979-1994).
